Review:

Audrey Hepburn stars opposite Gregory Peck in this delightful summer comedy romance. Hepburn plays the young restless Princess Ann who escapes from her royal duties on her visit to Rome to explore the city. Peck is Joe, the reporter who finds Ann on her first night of freedom and thus begins their short summer romance. The film is an all-time classic, and was the film that started Hepburn’s film career, she became an instant star from the film and went on to become one of Hollywood’s greatest stars, winning an Academy award for the role. For Gregory Peck, this was his first real foray into comedy, and while he was initially concerned about only being a supporting role to the princess, it ended up paying off tremendously as the film was met with critical acclaim on release and has endured as one of the best films from the 1950s. If you need something to get you in the mood and looking forward to summer, this is the perfect film. Despite the film being in black and white, the performances alone provide all the charm and vibrancy needed. It’s one of my personal favourite films and seeing it on the big screen is a rare and exciting opportunity. If you enjoyed our screenings of Some Like it Hot or Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and you haven’t yet seen Roman Holiday, it is definitely one to watch!
