Brazil 1977, a time of great mischief.

Review:
In The Secret Agent, we follow Marcelo (Wagner Moura), a widowed father in 1977 Brazil, as he flees a mysterious past. Marcelo finds himself returning to Recife, mid-Carnival. Beneath a loud and colourful city of revellers, a subtle, suspenseful and occasionally absurd political thriller unfolds. The Secret Agent was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and paints a vivid and unsettling image of life under a murderous dictatorship, interspersed with anarchic humour and endearing compassion. Wagner Moura carries the emotional weight of the target on his character’s back and the war being waged against his people with silent, solemn sadness. Meanwhile, a chaotic group of sinister villains follow behind him, leaving us to sit in dread-inducing anticipation of an inevitable crescendo. The Secret Agent is unforgettable and a glimmer of justice for a people forcibly forgotten by history
