Review:

Put Owen Wilson’s smooth southern drawl behind the anthropomorphic windshield of a Monte Carlo-esque red race car, and you’ve got a multibillion dollar franchise. A story which still upholds the importance of humbleness and selflessness 20 years later, nostalgia is only a fraction of the reason as to why Cars is still so widely enjoyed. With Cars’ 2006 release sandwiched in between that of The Incredibles and Ratatouille, Disney Pixar had a generational run of movie magic from the offset. This is apparent from even our opening scene, a sexy unveiling of Lightning McQueen’s glossy scarlet coat (...skin?) in a visually stunning stadium of sparkling lights and fans. Whilst Pixar films in the past half-decade have been lacklustre, this prior era of animation carried a certain je-ne-sais-quoi which is steadily slipping away from the studio. So, return to the fond memories of 2000s childhood and decompress after a long spring term with our final and free for members showing— kachow!
