Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair
After its 2006 premiere and a delayed screening at Tarantino’s own cinema in 2011, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair finally undergoes its worldwide theatrical release. Comprising an additional anime sequence, this film is both a completion of and addition to Tarantino’s fourth directorial venture which is Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Kill Bill: Volume 2. The two volumes themselves mark his first project of the 21st Century. They also signal a point at which he experienced a resurgence in his career, following the less commercially successful but critically acclaimed Jackie Brown and this new release gifts us with a grand synthesis of what is clearly one of his passion projects and simultaneously one of his finest artistic achievements. Significantly more noteworthy than his proceeding Death Proof, the franchise/film is not his only revenge and exploitation film but certainly his greatest venture into such genres. The film’s runtime exceeds four hours, so be ready for an absolute immersion in vengeful, non-stop action on top of literary dialogue from one of Hollywood’s most impressive auteurs.
