Review:

Everyone knows Superman, the farmboy turned city journalist who is known to the world as probably the most influential and recognisable hero of all time. James Gunn knows this too and in his cinematic introduction of his new DC ‘universe’ he cuts right to the middle of the action.

No time is wasted on an origin story, Superman (David Corenswet), just on the back of defending a minor nation ‘Jarhanpur’ against its aggressive US backed neighbour Boravia, finds himself in hot water at home with his partner Louis Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) as well as his soon to become arch-nemesis Lex Luthor ( Nicholaus Hault). What unfolds is a dramatic action packed and fresh superhero film, full of the hope, kindness, and punk rock that this new Superman has come to represent in memes and videos across the internet. James Gunn is at his classic best here, he has mastered his craft in creating compelling teams, whether it be the journalists at the Daily Planet or the “Justice Gang” made up of Green lantern, Hawk Girl and of course the brilliant Mr Terrific. If you don’t know these characters already you will certainly come to love them. There's no doubt in my mind that what's been released this summer will certainly become a starting point and a foundation for a new cinematic franchise that will certainly rival or even surpass the MCU. And if this friendly competition inspires the best film-making and creative heights in both, it's a win all round. But if you want to get in early on the hype train, then here is the place to board.

If you're looking for a bright, colourful and heartfelt film that rips straight from the comics it's based upon, Superman is a no-brainer to come and watch here at WSC, and experience its amazing score on some of the best equipment in the country. Even if you're a top 5 “insane hater” like Nicholaus Hault’s Lex Luthor there will be so much here for you to enjoy.
