Review:

Palestinian director Elia Suleiman’s The Time That Remains is a semi-autobiographical film that details the formation of the Israeli state from 1948 to the time the film was made. Depicting the plight and struggle of Palestine and the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation, the film is equal parts drama and black comedy. With succinct cuts and truly stunning cinematography, the film leaves its viewers to spend some time truly imagining and empathising with the story Suleiman tells. Through his economical storytelling, Suleiman depicts daily and domestic life under the occupation, in a deeply authentic and, in my opinion, sorrowful tone.
