Romeo + Juliet
My only love sprung from my only hate
|
It's 1996, and you sit down in the cinema to watch a retelling of Shakespeare’s classic,Romeo and Juliet. What you’re faced with is a disjointed, drug-injected, vibrantly potent vision of Baz Luhrmann. The details which make this adaptation contemporary whilst remaining faithful to its source is where the reward lies in this watch, and where appreciation grows with each subsequent one. Religious iconography and heavenly costumes bleed out of the screen, and the burning hues of passion will flood L3 this Friday night. The cherry on top? Radiohead blesses the soundtrack, with Talk Show Host playing against the saturated scenes of Verona Beach, accompanying a young 90s DiCaprio, and Exit Music (For a Film), fit for purpose. Join us at Warwick Student Cinema to celebrate the 30th anniversary re-release of such a spectacle.
